New Beginnings October 2006
Tom Jones, Camp Director Welcome to a first edition of monthly e-NEWS from Lake Retreat. The purpose of the e-NEWS is to keep people updated and informed about what is happening at camp on a regular basis.

We are finishing the summer camping season and beginning the transition to the fall season. It has been a full summer with thousands of campers visiting. Campers of all ages have had great experiences, making new friends, growing spiritually, and having lots of fun. Among these campers, there were individuals who had life changing experiences as a result of accepting Christ. At our High School Camp there were over 20 students who accepted Christ. Many of these were from broken homes. It is always thrilling to see students' lives transformed before your eyes.

One of the greatest needs and desires of all individuals is to find a place where we belong, a place where we are loved and accepted for who we are. Below is a quote from a Jr. High Camper, Isaiah Johnson, from Temple Baptist Church:

"For some it might takes weeks or months or years to find a place where you belong, but that was not so for me. As soon as I came to Lake Retreat I knew I found a place where I could make friends... I could never find another place like it."

Looking to the future, we are excited about some of the changes that are happening. For years we have desired to help the local churches by assisting in leadership development. We are fortunate to have Rick Burleson join the staff team here at Lake Retreat. He will be giving leadership in both the program area and in leadership development. Learn more about Rick in the following article.

Blessings,
